Western Kenya is full of political brokers who thrive on Luhya disunity and tribal politics.
At the moment they are strategizing on how to cut deals with the two main political outfits, Jubilee and CORD, for their selfish reasons.
If my brothers and sisters of Luhya were to unite today, they will be out of the job.
They claim to run for presidency now. Tomorrow they will announce joining forces with a coalition that has paid them off or simply to oppose their rivals.
Echoing Eugene Wamalwa: The Luhya community has stood together but has been let down by leaders who are always engaging in supremacy battles.
Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetang’ula and Cyrus Jirongo presidential candidature is nothing but a waste of time for western Kenya.
If you divide the Luhya vote among the three, it’s clear that their efforts will definitely fall through.
From where am standing, as the Luhya people, we have two options. After ignoring the so called “Luhya Presidential candidates”, join CORD or Jubilee without these brokers.
CORD might not be the best option at the moment because their chances of forming the next government are narrow.
The famous 2007 pentagon (Musalia Mudavadi, William Ruto, Najib Balala, Charity Ngilu and Joe Nyaga) no longer believe in their former captain.
The Raila-Kalonzo-Wetangula alliance prove futile in 2013 general election.
The 2007 well-structured Pentagon was replaced by a nugatory alliance that is yet to decide on a presidential candidate.
Chances of them retaining the opposition position- high.
On the other hand there is Jubilee, the Government of the day which has better chances of reelection.
The best move for the Luhya Community is to join Government and have more of its leaders in to represent their interests.
